I'm Not Proud, Cash Works.

I love a thoughtful gift, but to be thoughtful, it's got to hit the mark, otherwise it comes across as not really meshing into our lives or personalities. Give me stationery, fun pens, notebooks, a fountain pen, and I'll swoon. Give me a knick-knack and I'll probably hand it right back to you. You, dust it! But give me cash.... and I'll kiss your damn feet!

Cash is always the right size. Cash spends EVERYWHERE and ALL OVER THE WORLD. I can take cash wherever I go. I can save it and have it for years and let it grow into an even bigger present! I can pamper myself or pamper others or even pay a bill that's been hanging around. To me, cash is the most thoughtful gift ever, I don't care if it's $10.00. That's a few McDonald's small mochas. That's a paperback, an ink cartridge, TEN spiral notebooks, TEN packs of pens from the dollar store. I can make that 10-spot squeal and provide me with lots of my favorite little indulgences. And if I want to split my present, it's two tickets to the cheap cinema, PLUS popcorn.

So I don't really get what the character "Elaine" is so upset about. How is she getting that bench home anyway? New York taxi drivers frown on hauling furniture. Maybe with the GOOD gift that Jerry gave her, she can rent a car to take the bench home???
