A woman decided to allow her son to dress up as his character of choice for Halloween. He's a cute 5-year-old little boy and loves watching Scooby-Doo. He likes Daphne (as did both of my brothers), so he decided that's the costume he wanted. See a picture here: http://nerdyapplebottom.com/2010/11/02/my-son-is-gay/ I think he looks adorable, and he'd be one of those kids that would get extra candy if he showed up at my door. Lots of fawning would ensue.
So what's with the parents' attitude at this school? Have they never seen a trick or treater at the doorstep dressed as the opposite sex? What kind of backward-ass community are they living in? Gather 'round everyone, meet your local book burners disguised as good Christians. I can't imagine they would be pro-First Amendment, so it's a footstep, rather than leap, to that conclusion.
At every adult Halloween party that I've ever been to, the guy in the dress always won the costume contest. Why? Because he had the best goddamn costume, that's why. I'd enter the room dressed in my most clever garb (and I'd do research and accessorize to the 9s); I'd look around for competition. As soon as I saw the guy as a woman, I knew I'd lost before I started. I was always in the finals, but I knew the guy would take home the prize.
This could have been the real reason for this pre-school melodrama. This mom's son probably looked a shitload better than every other kid -- it's awesome and the purse just makes it for me (my daughter had the same one). This kid came to the party dressed up as Daphne from Scooby-Doo, and the kid ROCKED IT! He's adorable.
These pathetic, pouty and bitchy mothers don't have any clue who they messed with.... a woman that didn't give a shit about their opinions and ideas; a woman who is standing up for the rights of her son to express himself. Way to go. The world needs more of us.
By the way, if these women didn't know they were messing with a cop's wife and son, I do hope he takes the time to introduce himself.
